Accounting Professional

Pursuing CPA Licensure with a Tax Focus

Background in financial operations, healthcare consulting, and real-world accounting. Currently completing a Master of Accountancy and preparing for CPA licensure, with a long-term focus in tax.

Professional Overview

I am an accounting professional with extensive experience in financial operations, compliance, and risk management across healthcare and professional service organizations. Over the past decade, I have held senior responsibility for bookkeeping, payroll, budgeting, financial reporting, and internal controls, supporting organizations ranging from small practices to multi-entity operations with $10M+ annual budgets.

I am currently pursuing a Master of Accountancy (MAcc) at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and preparing to sit for the CPA exam, with a planned licensure timeline of Spring 2027. My long-term career focus is tax accounting within a public accounting firm.

Career Summary

My career began in healthcare administration, where I served as Practice Administrator for a high-volume medical organization overseeing financial operations for a 70-employee team and managing a multimillion-dollar annual budget. During my tenure, I worked closely with external CPAs, attorneys, and lenders while strengthening internal controls and contributing to significant revenue growth through disciplined financial management.

I later founded and led Gitschlag Consulting, providing back-office accounting and financial operations support to healthcare and professional services clients. My work included general ledger maintenance, reconciliations, payroll, accounts payable, financial reporting, and preparation of financial documentation for lenders, auditors, and tax professionals. These roles required precision, confidentiality, and the ability to explain financial information clearly to non-accountants.

Public Accounting Readiness

My experience aligns closely with the demands of public accounting environments.  I have supported month-end close processes, maintained detailed documentation, reconciled complex accounts, and worked under strict deadlines. I am comfortable operating within structured workflows and value consistency, accuracy, and review.

Having collaborated extensively with CPAs and tax professionals, I understand the importance of documentation standards, audit trails, and professional judgment. I am eager to apply this operational foundation within a public accounting firm while continuing to develop technical expertise through formal training and mentorship.

Risk, Compliance & Investigations Experience

Throughout my career, I have supported clients through IRS and state tax audits by assisting with preparation, documentation, and responses to regulatory inquiries. I have also identified and addressed instances of financial misconduct within medical practices, requiring careful analysis, documentation, and coordination with legal counsel.

In one engagement, I supported a client through federal litigation, including providing financial documentation and testimony under oath. These experiences reinforced the importance of internal controls, ethical standards, and clear documentation — principles that are foundational to public accounting, tax compliance, and audit readiness.

Tax-Focused Career Path

My long-term professional goal is to build a career in tax accounting within a public accounting firm. I am particularly interested in individual, partnership, and closely held business taxation, where technical accuracy, regulatory compliance, and client communication intersect.

As I complete the MAcc program and prepare for the CPA exam, I am intentionally strengthening my technical accounting foundation to support this path. I am motivated by complex regulatory frameworks and the opportunity to help clients navigate tax obligations with confidence and integrity.
